Where Do You Get Your Rochester News?

Rochester newspaper

The Democrat and Chronicle is the main Rochester NY newspaper, and is a great resource for local news, sports and upcoming events, but there was a time when it wasn’t the only Rochester New York newspaper. According to the Library of Congress, the city used to have the Rochester Post Express, which was published by the Post Express Print Company from 1882 to 1923, but then merged with the Rochester News Corporation’s Rochester Evening Journal in 1923. This eventually became the Rochester Evening Journal and The Post Express, which served the city from 1923 to 1937. The evening paper for many years was the Times-Union, but that merged operations with the Democrat and Chronicle in 1992, and went defunct five years after, leaving the Democrat as the main Rochester newspaper.

Now, with the advent of TV and online news, there are many other places to get Rochester news. Two particularly great sources of Rochester news are the YNN Rochester TV channel, and the Twitter account @RocBuzz.

YNN is a 24 hour a day, seven days a week, local news service provided by Time Warner. Today, the Rochester news channel is in 330,000 homes in a 15 county area, and remain consistently the top choice of local advertisers when putting commercials on TV. Their motto, “Your News Now,” serves as a great reflection because they tell the important local stories as developments occur.

The Twitter handle, @RocBuzz, gives live, up to the minute news updates from a variety of local sources. The instantaneous nature of Twitter allows followers to follow a plethora of different news sources as they update content. They also attach the lead, which answers the questions of who, what, when, where, why and how, for people who are too busy to read the entire story.
